About Shamim Aidun

Shamim Aidun, Lawyer

Education and Experience

I completed my Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia, followed by a Master of Arts in Applied Legal Studies at Simon Fraser University. I then earned my law degree at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.

I received several academic awards, including:

  • LL.B (Laws) Scholarship
  • Presidential Entrance Scholarship
  • Deputy Vice-Chancellor Scholarship

Before joining a boutique law firm in Kelowna that specialized in estate law, I articled and practiced in the Cariboo region, where I developed a broad-based law practice that included family law. I ultimately returned home to Kelowna to focus my practice on estate planning, estate administration, and estate litigation.

Court Appearances

I have appeared as counsel at all levels of court in the Province of British Columbia, including:

  • British Columbia Court of Appeal
  • Supreme Court of British Columbia
  • Provincial Court of British Columbia

I have also appeared before:

  • British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal
  • Civil Resolution Tribunal
  • The Residential Tenancy Branch

Personal Life and Community Involvement

Outside the office, I enjoy golf, water sports, dirt biking, gardening, and skiing at Big White.

I am deeply involved in the legal community through the Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia Branch (the “CBABC”). I serve on the CBABC Provincial Council, which serves in an advisory role to the CBABC Board of Directors, and I contribute to discussions that help inform the Branch’s work on policy, governance, and issues affecting lawyers, the justice system, and the public across British Columbia.

I also serve as Chair of the Wills & Trusts Section (Okanagan) with the CBABC, where I provide leadership for the Section’s activities, including continuing professional development and networking programs. In this role, I work with Section leadership to engage members, support programming, and help facilitate discussions on emerging legal and policy issues of interest to the Section’s members.

Commitment to Community

My involvement reflects a commitment to:

  • • Supporting the legal profession
  • • Promoting high professional and ethical standards
  • • Improving access to justice
  • • Enhancing legal education and mentorship
  • • Staying at the forefront of developments in the law

I am a member of the Kelowna Estate Planning Society, the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, and the Kelowna Bar Association, and I remain active in local and regional professional activities.

I am fluent in Farsi and English.
